Pune: According to police sources, two friends of the 17-year-old involved in the Pune Porsche crash claimed he was intoxicated when he fatally collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both aged 24.
Eyewitnesses also stated the teenager appeared heavily intoxicated when detained by an enraged crowd following the incident, with reports suggesting he was assaulted.
Subsequent investigations revealed CCTV footage from a city bar depicting the teenager and his companions surrounded by numerous bottles of alcohol. Consequently, the bar owner and staff were arrested for serving liquor to a minor.
Amidst this, questions arose regarding the teenager’s blood alcohol level, especially following revelations of protocol breaches by arresting officers, two of whom have been suspended. Allegations surfaced that the teen, son of a prominent real estate magnate, was not promptly subjected to a blood test.

Moreover, suspicions emerged of tampering with blood samples at the state-run Sassoon Hospital, where the teen was eventually taken. It’s alleged that his blood sample may have been swapped with one of three others collected, including his mother’s, indicating potential manipulation.
Two doctors and a ward boy from Sassoon Hospital, including the Chief Medical Officer and head of the forensic department, were arrested on charges of manipulating tests. Authorities suspect communication between the doctor and the teenager’s father, hinting at possible bribery discussions.
Additionally, scrutiny has extended to the Juvenile Justice Board, with two members under investigation for their handling of the case.
The teenager faces charges of drunk driving, with potential implications of culpable homicide. Pune Police, under scrutiny for investigative lapses and alleged preferential treatment, have pledged to construct a robust case despite the challenges posed by tainted blood tests. Meanwhile, the teenager’s father and grandfather face charges related to attempting to influence the investigation and orchestrating an escape plan.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured the public of equal treatment under the law, reaffirming his engagement with law enforcement since the incident’s onset.
