Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Piku followed the story of a quirky road trip involving a father-daughter duo and their cab driver. Deepika played the titular character Piku, Amitabh portrayed her eccentric father, and Irrfan played the cab driver who gets entangled in their emotional journey. The film was widely praised for its heartfelt storytelling, subtle humour, and the natural chemistry between the cast.
Fans have often reminisced about the unforgettable bond shared by Deepika and Irrfan in the movie. In Irrfan: A Life in Movies, a biography by Shubhra Gupta, director Shoojit Sircar recalled Irrfan’s enthusiasm about working on the film. He said, “Irrfan expected Piku to be a love story because Deepika was in it.” Sircar also highlighted how significant the role was for Irrfan: “That helped them bond, because Deepika was scared that she was going to work with Irrfan.”
With the 10th-anniversary re-release, Piku promises to stir up fond memories for fans and celebrate the lasting legacy of Irrfan Khan, whose performance remains one of the film’s most cherished elements.
Piku will be back in theatres on May 9, 2025.
