Director Uttam Maheshwari has responded to growing criticism surrounding the timing of his film ‘Operation Sindoor’, which is inspired by India’s military action following the Pahalgam terror attack. After receiving backlash online and from certain sections of the public, Maheshwari issued a public apology, stating that the intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone’s sentiments.
The film’s announcement came just days after the real-life incident, leading to accusations of insensitivity and capitalising on a national tragedy. In a heartfelt note shared on social media, Maheshwari expressed his regret and attempted to clarify the motivation behind the project.“My sincere apologies for recently announcing a film based on Operation Sindoor, inspired by the recent heroic efforts of our Indian Armed Forces. The intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone’s sentiments,” the director wrote.
He continued by explaining the film was driven by admiration for the courage, sacrifice, and strength of Indian soldiers and leadership. “I was moved by the courage, sacrifice, and strength of our soldiers and leadership, and simply wished to bring this powerful story to light,” Maheshwari stated.

Stressing that the project was made out of respect and patriotism, he clarified that it was not intended for fame or profit. “This is not just a film, it’s an emotion of the entire nation and a social image of the country globally,” he emphasized.
In a strong show of solidarity with the armed forces, Maheshwari expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and sent prayers to the families of the martyrs. He concluded by saying, “Our love and prayers will always be with the families of the martyrs as well as the brave warriors who are fighting on the border day and night to give us a new morning.”
The film is being produced by Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films in collaboration with The Content Engineer, though casting details remain under wraps.
As debate continues online, Maheshwari’s response may help reframe public perception of the film’s intent—shifting it from controversy to a patriotic tribute in the making.
