The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to win at least 15 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha, according to the exit polls. This comes as a significant challenge to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has been a dominant force in the state.
The BJD, which swept the 2014 polls by securing 20 of the 21 seats, is now forecast to win only three to eight seats. This marks a drastic decline from its performance in the last two general elections. In the 2019 elections, the BJD had already experienced a drop, winning 12 seats, which was eight fewer than in 2014.
Different exit polls have provided the following projections for Odisha
India News-D-Dynamics: BJP 13 seats, BJD 8 seats, INDIA (opposition bloc) 0 seats.
India TV-CNX: BJP 15-17 seats, BJD 4-6 seats, INDIA up to 1 seat.
Jan Ki Baat: BJP 15-18 seats, BJD 3-7 seats, INDIA 0 seats.
News 24-Today’s Chanakya: BJP 16 seats, BJD 4 seats, INDIA 1 seat.

In the context of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, these predictions suggest a significant shift in Odisha’s political landscape, with the BJP making substantial inroads into a state long considered a stronghold of the BJD.
National exit polls have consistently predicted a strong performance for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) across various states. For Odisha, the BJP’s potential gains are seen as part of a broader national trend.
