After more than two decades since their iconic performance in the 2001 film Nayak: The Real Hero, Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji are reportedly reuniting for the highly anticipated sequel. The original movie, renowned for its compelling narrative and powerful performances, has developed a cult following over the years.
A source close to the production revealed that the sequel will continue from where the first film ended. Producer Mukut confirmed the news, speaking about Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherji pairing and hinting at an upcoming official announcement. The screenplay is currently in progress, and plans are to retain Anil and Rani in their respective roles.
“We are planning the sequel and taking the story forward with the existing characters. I bought the rights a long time ago from producer A.M. Rathnam. We are writing the script right now with the leads in mind and incorporating other actors too. As soon as the writing is complete, we’ll decide the way ahead. We have a couple of directors in mind, but nobody has been finalized,” the Mid-day quoted Mukut as saying.
Initial discussions have already begun with Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. Regarding the introduction of new actors in the Nayak sequel, Mukut mentioned that it will depend on how the characters evolve and which actors best fit the roles.
