A selfie featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni has captured the internet’s attention, going viral across social media platforms. Taken on Friday during the G7 summit in Italy’s Apulia region, the photograph shows both the leaders beaming with smiles.

This is not the first time a selfie of the two leaders has garnered significant online attention. Last year, a similar photograph taken at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai was widely shared. “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi,” Meloni had captioned that picture.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Italy early on Friday at Meloni’s invitation to attend the G7 Outreach summit. This marks his first foreign trip since beginning his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

PM Modi and Giorgia Meloni Discuss Bilateral Relations at G7 Summit

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, focusing on bilateral relations between India and Italy.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Meloni congratulated PM Modi on securing his third consecutive term as Prime Minister. PM Modi, in turn, expressed gratitude to Meloni for the invitation to the G7 Outreach summit and praised the successful conclusion of the event.

“The two leaders noted with satisfaction the regular higher political dialogue and reviewed the progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership,” the PMO stated.

They expressed joy over the growing trade and economic collaboration and emphasized the need to expand commercial ties in areas such as clean energy, manufacturing, space, science and technology, telecom, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals to build resilient supply chains. They also welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Property Rights (IPR), which provides a framework for cooperation on patents, designs, and trademarks.

Additionally, PM Modi and Meloni discussed enhancing bilateral defense and security cooperation, expressing hopes to further develop the defense industrial collaboration between India and Italy.
