As the 18th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) draws to a close, film enthusiasts in Pune are in for a special treat with an array of premieres and screenings planned across the city.
Organized by NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India, MIFF has been a platform to showcase the best of Documentary, Short, and Animation films from around the globe.

In an effort to engage audiences across multiple cities including Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, and Chennai, MIFF is set to host special red carpet premieres and screenings.
Pune, known for its vibrant cultural scene, will feature screenings of films from local filmmakers, alongside a special premiere of the opening film “Billy and Molly – an otter love story” at the NFDC – National Film Archive of India venue.
Which films will be screened at the MIFF
From June 15 to June 21, Pune will witness daily screenings of official selections at the NFDC – NFAI venue, showcasing a diverse range of films. Highlights from the international competition section include “Against the Tide” by Sarvnik Kaur, “Glass my Unfulfilled Life” by Rogier Kappier, “Karparaa” by Vignesh Kumulai, and “I Am Not” by Homer Hermann. Additionally, three Marathi films – “Bhed Chal” by Ankit Pogula, “Sahastrasurya Savarkar” by Shubhangi Rajan Sawant, and “Aathvanitlya Paaulkhuna” by Suhas Sitaram Karnekar – will grace the screens in Pune.
Celebrating local talent, MIFF will feature films by Pune-based filmmakers who have made it to the official selection. Notable entries include Sainath S. Uskaikar’s “Guntata Hruday He (Entangled)” and Cannes Film Festival winner Chidananda Naik’s “Sunflowers were the first ones to know,” competing in the National competition for short fiction films. Additionally, Arindam Kishor Dutta’s “Kankhua” will be showcased in the National competition for Animation, Prasad Ramesh Bhujbal’s “Fear” in the National Short fiction competition, and Devesh Ranganath Kanase’s “Mhatara Dongar” as part of the National Prism – Student short film fiction category.
The 18th MIFF promises a celebration of cinematic excellence and cultural diversity, offering Pune audiences an enriching experience from June 15 to 21, 2024.
