New and chilling details have surfaced in the shocking murder of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, who was found dead at his Bengaluru residence yesterday. Police sources now reveal that the retired IPS officer was allegedly tied up, attacked with chilli powder, stabbed with two knives, and bludgeoned with a glass bottle during a domestic altercation that escalated fatally.
The prime suspect is none other than his wife, Pallavi, with whom he reportedly had a long-standing conflict over property matters. Police are also probing the possible involvement of their daughter, Kruthi, as both mother and daughter were detained and questioned for over 12 hours.
Property Dispute Turns Deadly: Son’s Statement Points to Family Feud
According to police reports, the deadly confrontation began with a heated argument between Om Prakash and Pallavi over a property that he had allegedly transferred to a relative — a move that deeply angered his wife.
In his complaint to the police, the couple’s son, Karthikeya, painted a grim picture of repeated threats and emotional turmoil at home. He stated that his mother Pallavi had threatened his father’s life on multiple occasions, leading Om Prakash to temporarily move in with his sister, Saritha Kumari, for safety.
But just two days before the murder, Kruthi — the retired officer’s daughter — allegedly visited her father at his sister’s house and “pressured him to return home against his will,” according to Karthikeya.

On the day of the crime, Karthikeya was away at the Karnataka Golf Association in Domlur when he received a call from a neighbor, informing him that his father had been found lying in a pool of blood at the house.
“I rushed home around 5:45 pm and found police officers and members of the public present at the scene. My father was lying in a pool of blood with injuries to his head and body. A broken bottle and a knife were found next to him,” Karthikeya stated in his complaint.
Murder Confession and Police Action
Sources close to the investigation revealed that after allegedly committing the crime, Pallavi confessed to another police officer’s wife, who immediately relayed the information to her husband. He, in turn, alerted the police, prompting officers to arrive at the scene. Pallavi and Kruthi were detained for questioning but have not yet been formally arrested.
Bengaluru’s Additional Commissioner of Police, Vikas Kumar, confirmed that police were alerted to the incident early Friday morning and that an active murder investigation is underway.
State Reaction and Tributes
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the media, expressing shock and sorrow over the violent death of the respected former officer.
“Preliminary information indicates his wife committed the crime, but it’s under investigation. He was a good officer and a good human being. This shouldn’t have happened. Investigation will reveal everything,” the minister said.
A Decorated Career Cut Short by Domestic Tragedy
Om Prakash, an Indian Police Service officer from the 1981 batch, held an illustrious career. Appointed as Karnataka’s Director General of Police in March 2015, he also served as the chief of Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards. Born in Bihar, he held a Master’s degree in Geology and was widely respected among his peers for his commitment to policing and public safety.
As investigators delve deeper into the tangled web of family dynamics, mental health issues, and financial disputes, the murder of Om Prakash stands as a somber reminder of how even the most secure lives can be shattered by hidden domestic conflicts.
