500 Indian Army para commandos deployed in Jammu to hunt down over 50 terrorists

The Indian Army has reinforced its presence with one brigade, comprising around 3,500-4,000 personnel, to counter Pakistan's proxy aggression.

In response to the recent infiltration of highly trained Pakistani terrorists into the Jammu region, the Indian Army is realigning its deployments based on intelligence inputs and security needs. Approximately 500 Para Special Forces commandos have been deployed to track down the 50-55 terrorists from Pakistan who have entered the area with the intent of reviving terrorism, according to defence sources cited by a news agency.

Intelligence agencies have intensified their efforts in the region, aiming to dismantle the support infrastructure for the terrorists, including overground workers who assist them.

In addition, the Indian Army has reinforced its presence with one brigade, comprising around 3,500-4,000 personnel, to counter Pakistan’s proxy aggression.

The Army leadership on the ground is actively developing strategies to locate and neutralize the terrorists, who are reportedly equipped with advanced weaponry and communication tools.

The existing counter-terrorism infrastructure in the area, which includes two Rashtriya Rifles forces — Romeo and Delta — as well as other regular infantry divisions, is being leveraged to enhance the effectiveness of these operations.

The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has convened security meetings to address the rising terror threats in Jammu, underscoring the urgency and importance of the situation. The nation has witnessed the loss of 48 soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir over the past 32 months, highlighting the critical need for ongoing vigilance and action.

The move comes in the backdrop of four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, dying in an intense encounter with terrorists in the Desa area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. The joint operation, conducted by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was initiated based on specific intelligence regarding presence of terrorists in the region.

Prior to that, five soldiers were killed in action in Kathua during a coordinated strike on two trucks carrying at least 12 troops. The terrorists attacked the trucks, which were approximately 500 metre apart, using grenades and armor-piercing bullets, including an M4 assault rifle.

The recent surge in terrorist activities has intensified security concerns in the region, prompting enhanced vigilance and response measures by the Indian security forces.
