General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, has officially taken over as the 30th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of India, succeeding General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who retired after more than four decades of distinguished service to the nation on June 30.
General Dwivedi, an accomplished military leader with 40 years of service in the Armed Forces, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to his new role. An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), he was commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in 1984.

Throughout his career, he has held balanced command and staff positions across Northern, Eastern, and Western theatres, navigating varied operational environments with distinction.
Assuming command during a time of dynamic global geo-strategic changes, General Dwivedi faces the challenges of an evolving security domain influenced by technological advancements and the shifting character of modern warfare.
