Early this morning, a dense fog enveloped Delhi and its surrounding regions, severely reducing visibility and leading to significant disruptions in transportation. At least seven flights were cancelled, and 184 others were delayed as a result. Additionally, 26 trains headed towards Delhi experienced delays, while six trains had their schedules altered due to the thick fog.
Road traffic in Delhi and neighboring areas also slowed down significantly, with drivers facing challenges due to the poor visibility. The Delhi Airport issued a warning around 7:30 am, urging passengers to stay informed about their flight statuses. Although landings and take-offs were still taking place, the airport indicated that flights not equipped with CAT III compliance might face delays. It advised travelers to directly check with their respective airlines for the latest updates and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
Both budget airlines, IndiGo and SpiceJet, also issued alerts regarding potential disruptions caused by the dense fog. They advised passengers to verify the status of their flights to avoid confusion.
The temperature in Delhi this morning was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more fog during the evening and night. Cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain later in the day were also forecasted. The city’s air quality remained in the “poor” category, further contributing to the challenging weather conditions.
