Kulvinder Kaur, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable accused of slapping actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport, struck a defiant tone on Friday. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Kaur said, “I am not afraid of losing this job… I am ready to lose thousands of such jobs for my mother’s respect.”
The incident allegedly took place on Thursday while Kangana Ranaut, who represents Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, was waiting to board a flight to Delhi. Kaur accused Ranaut of “disrespecting farmers,” referencing a controversial 2020 remark by Ranaut during the farmers’ protests against the Modi government’s farm laws.
मुझे नौकरी की फिक्र नहीं है,
मां की इज्जत पर ऐसी हजारों नौकरियां कुर्बान है- कुलविंदर कौर— Kulvinder Kaur (@Kul_winderKaur) June 7, 2024
Following the altercation, Kulwinder Kaur was suspended, an inquiry was initiated, and she was arrested this morning. The confrontation, partly captured on mobile footage, shows Ranaut being escorted to a check-in counter where the argument with Kaur ensues. The video, however, does not show the alleged slap.
Explaining her actions, Kulwinder Kaur referred to a 2020 comment by Ranaut, which suggested that elderly women at protest sites were being paid Rs 100 to sit there. This statement, made during the height of the nationwide farmers’ agitation, had sparked significant backlash and was subsequently deleted by Ranaut.
“She (Ranaut) gave a statement that farmers are sitting for Rs 100. Will she go and sit? My mother was sitting and protesting when she said this,” Kaur said.

Kangana Ranaut, initially silent, later posted a video on social media condemning the incident and expressing concerns about rising terrorism in Punjab.
“The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to cross. She then came and hit me… started throwing expletives. I asked her why she hit me. She said, ‘I support farmers’. I am safe… but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?” she stated.
Kaur’s suspension and arrest have drawn reactions from various farmer groups, including the non-political wing of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which led the 2020/21 protests. Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a leader of the group, called for a thorough investigation into the incident. “We demand a proper investigation… there should be no injustice with the woman constable,” he said, addressing unconfirmed reports that Kaur had asked to examine Ranaut’s handbag and mobile phone before boarding.
Ranaut’s comments on the farmers’ protests have led to multiple controversies. In addition to her 2020 remark, she faced backlash in February 2021 after international pop star Rihanna criticized the BJP government over the protests. Ranaut responded by labeling the protestors as “terrorists” and alleging they were attempting to divide India for China’s benefit, a post she later deleted.
