TMC councillor failed murder attempt: In a dramatic turn of events, a murder attempt on Trinamool Congress councillor Sushanta Ghosh was foiled in Kolkata’s Kasba area last night when the shooter’s gun malfunctioned. The entire incident, including a heated on-foot chase, was captured on a CCTV camera outside Ghosh’s home.
Sushanta Ghosh, councillor of Ward 108 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, was seated outside his home when two men arrived on a scooter. One of the assailants pulled out a firearm and attempted to shoot him twice, but the weapon failed to discharge.
Sensing an opportunity, Ghosh lunged at the shooter. In the ensuing chaos, the attacker attempted to flee on the scooter but slipped, leading to a dramatic chase. Local residents eventually apprehended him and handed him over to the police after questioning him on camera.

Confession on Camera
In a video taken by locals, the captured shooter confessed that he had been given a photograph of the councillor and instructed to kill him. “I was not given any money. I was just given a photo and asked to murder him,” he admitted as an agitated crowd surrounded him.
Police sources revealed that the shooters were hired from Bihar, and initial investigations point to local rivalries as the motive.
Councillor Reacts to the Incident
Ghosh expressed shock at the attempt on his life, stating, “I have been a councillor for 12 years and never thought that I could be attacked; that too while I am sitting in my area.”
