New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his intention to surrender on Sunday as the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court in a Delhi liquor policy case draws to a close. In a press conference today, Kejriwal expressed his commitment to the fight against tyranny, asserting his readiness to sacrifice for the country if necessary.
Kejriwal revealed the toll his 50-day imprisonment had taken on his health, disclosing significant weight loss and ongoing health issues exacerbated by alleged denial of diabetes medication. Despite these challenges, he assured the public that the welfare of Delhi’s residents remains his paramount concern, promising the uninterrupted continuation of essential services and initiatives such as free electricity, Mohalla clinics, hospitals, free medicines, and women’s free bus travel.
“Even though I won’t be among you, do not worry. All your work will continue,” Arvind Kejriwal affirmed, emphasizing his enduring commitment to the people of Delhi. He also made a heartfelt plea for prayers for the well-being of his elderly parents, highlighting their vulnerability and the importance of community support.
Arvind Kejriwal’s impending surrender follows his arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a corruption case linked to the now-repealed Delhi liquor policy. The probe agency alleges Kejriwal’s involvement in drafting the policy and soliciting bribes for liquor licenses, purportedly funneling kickbacks of Rs 100 crore into the AAP’s election campaigns in Goa and Punjab.
Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP have vehemently denied these allegations, decrying the arrest and subsequent case as political vendetta. The timing of the arrest, just weeks before elections, sparked a political fracas between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc, led by the Congress and of which the AAP is a member. Amidst these legal and political battles, Kejriwal remains steadfast in his dedication to serving the people of Delhi, even as he prepares to confront the legal challenges ahead.
